A triumph of the Covid spirit

It’s been a traumatic 19 weeks reflects Desiree Perez, Leadership Coach. But, we – as business leaders – have shown the passion and perseverance to pull through whatever the pandemic has thrown at us

I can’t believe it has been 19 weeks! This last article is not a goodbye, but rather a hello to new opportunities, new ways of thinking, and new chapters in our professional and personal lives.

It has been such a pleasure to be able to share a little with you over the last 19 (no coincidence here – I am sure) weeks with you. I admire all of you who have faced and embraced the current situation with so much grace and willpower to come out stronger on the other side.

I think that the one thing that has become very clear: The initial “this is only going to take a few months” sprint has turned into a “it’s going to take a few years” marathon. As you continue to run this marathon, I do not only wish you the ability to make it through all the trials and tribulations, but that you indeed come out stronger on the other side.

It is important to give ourselves the space when things don’t turn out as how we would like them to; then to know how to turn all of this into opportunities. Sometimes they are just opportunities for growth.

“Each moment describes who you are and gives you the opportunity to decide if that’s who you want to be.”  Bruce D. Schneider

Over the last 19 weeks, I have shared several tools that you can use to navigate through the current situation. I do believe this is the foundation of it all.

And, as we are embracing this marathon as leaders of our own lives, our organisations, and teams, we have the power of choice on how we want to show up. How we show up and how we handle setbacks is the key to success when it comes to situations like the current one. The best part about this is that we get to decide how we want to show up; no matter the situation.

Just like for everyone else, Covid-19 has created some darker days for me and left me wondering where all of this is going to take us. Covid-19 has also created endless opportunities for me to grow as an individual and as business owner. This was a conscious and strong decision that I made for myself that whatever it is, I will show up for my clients and business partners by making this my biggest learning curve yet – and it has paid off in more ways than one.

I can’t wait to be able to see all of you in the near future during one of the conferences. I am wishing you continued success and resilience in the re-emergence of the industry. All of us have one thing that we all have in common: Passion. Passion for our industry and wanting to get people to their destination – it is a big part of what will carry us through.

With my very best wishes,
