Meet the GHI team

This issue, we catch up with GHI & ALI Publisher, Marc Young on the resilience of the aviation industry, getting to grips with Zoom/Microsoft Teams but why no software can beat some good old fashioned office banter…

Q- With the UK in lockdown, how have you been adapting to the challenges of working from home?

Marc: “Like many people I have taken time to adjust to the new normal of working from home. Of course, you can feel very isolated and alone and I undoubtably miss the office environment and some work colleagues. I am fortunate to have a home study and I have also found the use of Zoom and Microsoft Teams as invaluable tools to staying in touch with colleagues. If there is one takeaway from this terrible situation is that modern technology can have a positive impact on work process.”

Q- You are Publisher of GHI and sister cargo magazine, ALI, what are your thoughts on the cargo sector during this pandemic and its prospects of enjoying a pick up before PAX?

Marc: “Covid-19 is not the first event or virus to have a profound impact on the aviation sector, however, the longevity of the impact with this virus will be much longer than SARS and 9-11. During SARS and 9-11, it was the Cargo sector that lead the recovery and I expect this to be the same again during this pandemic. You are already seeing a pickup in specific cargo areas such as charter and cargo conversions, however, we should be under no illusions that the recovery will take a long time.”

Q- While lockdown is preventing us physically attending any events, GHI has launched a new webinar platform. Can you tell us a bit more about it and the benefits for suppliers?

Marc: “Before the pandemic took hold the ALI, GHI and REN brands were very print based focussed. However, we have had to adapt and the publishing model has been turned completely on its head. We have recently launched Webinars which I believe will give companies the opportunity to stay connected with their clients and also showcase their products and best practice to a captive audience of existing and potential customers who are now predominately working from home. The Webinars will give you huge exposure across our excellent database of key decision makers.”

Q- What have you missed most while you’ve been in lockdown?

Marc: “I have definitely missed the cut and thrust of an office environment and Max’s jokes and football banter with our Delegate Sales Manager, George Lydon.”

Q- What’s your message to GHI exhibitors and sponsors during this crisis?

Marc: “My message to our wonderful GHI exhibitors and sponsors is to try and stay calm and focused during this time of crisis, however, one thing I have learnt about the aviation sector is it is a very resilient community that will bounce back and will be stronger and better!”
